I appreciate the opportunity that Mary Kay represents, and I support Mandy in her Mary Kay career. We talked about it before she became a consultant, we have the understanding that if she wants to book a pampering session, or has training to attend, then I will do whatever needs to facilitate it. We have a son, and he understands that Mom sells Mary Kay. He and I enjoy spending time together, and while we miss mom while she’s not there, we appreciate the opportunity to hang out as the guys. For me, the fact that Mandy sells Mary Kay, helps me reach my goal of spending time with my son.
Selling Skin Care products and cosmetics is a sales position. It takes a certain type of person to excel in a sales career. I feel it’s the duty of the directors and consultants to make sure their potential recruits are well suited for a career with Mary Kay before offering them the opportunity to sign up. As I have watched the training videos from the national directors, they stress that point. It’s more important to find qualified candidates than it is to recruit anyone willing to sign up.
The consultants and directors that are reaching their goals have a group of common characteristics. Outgoing goal oriented self-starters will be successful. The ability to multi-task, time management, and marketing will all go a long way towards helping you reach your goal.
Having a successful Mary Kay experience as a director requires even more work. In addition to the sales and business management responsibilities of the consultant, you are now also responsible for maintaining and growing relationships with your downlines, which can take even more work than simply being a consultant.
I feel that if you are interested in becoming a Mary Kay consultant, it pays to do your homework on your director before you sign up. The support of a honest, hardworking sales director is key to your success as a consultant. Take the time to talk to a few consultants. Be sure to sign up under one that you are comfortable working with.
